| Frequently
Asked Questions |
Q.
How can DMD help us install an in-house document imaging capability?
A.
We determine the type and quantity of original paper you would scan -- and
how you would use the electronic images. Using that information we recommend
particular scanners, imaging and indexing software, and image retrieval
and viewing software. We usually meet with you in your location
and often put on a demonstration there.
Q.
How does DMD assist us to make our new imaging system operational?
A.
DMD usually installs the agreed hardware and software at your location.
We get the system working efficiently and then train your staff to
operate it.
Q.
What is the cost of a complete imaging system?
A.
System cost depends entirely on the type and quantity of originals to be
scanned and how the images would be used. The least expensive system might
consist of only a modest scanner and free viewer software, less than $1000
complete. Alternately, when you have high volume, color and mixed
content documents, and complex indexing is required, the cost could range
to many times that much.
Q.
What if we have problems with software or hardware after the sale?
A.
Everyone does! That is the reason DMD sells only the highest quality hardware--equipment
that is backed by the manufacturer.
We favor Kodak because
that company has its own trained employee-technicians. A warranty or
service agreement from Kodak really means something-- Their trained technicians
have all the parts that might be needed; they can fix a down system
in hours!
We favor PSIGEN over other
scanning and indexing software
alternatives as Ascent Capture, Input Accel, or others because the PSIGEN
team aggressively supports their software installations.
Our customers
can get someone on the telephone instantly-- and 99% of calls result
in an immediate solution.
Q.
What does it mean that PSIGEN and OCR software are listed in the GSA?
A.
If you are a federal, state, military, or university system buyer, purchasing
through GSA can be greatly expedited and simplified. All government
purchasing regulation allows direct GSA purchase without requirement
to acquire several independent price quotes. The GSA price is assumed
to be the most competitive.
Q.
What function does TypeReader and FineReader OCR software perform?
A.
OCR software converts the image to text. The software "reads" or
recognizes the font
characters and outputs text that can be edited by other software
such as Microsoft Word. This software also simultaneously converts
scanned images to Acrobat PDF, including "image + Hidden text" format.
It can perform such conversion in extremely fast and labor reducing
batch processing mode. Either of these software products effectively
eliminates the need for Acrobat Capture software.
